We played in the festive Mountain Home RV park clubhouse this month and had a spooktacular time!  Dawn and Krisann hosted and we enjoyed the famous spaghetti casserole and buttery Bunco sugar cookies!  Lots of fun tonight!

A big official welcome to Sandy who has joined our Bunco group!  We have 14 members now, and with absences every now and then, having 14 players hopefully will give us full tables.  We had two ghosts just last night, and missed Fran, Kris, Toni, and Dawn.  

Congratulations to Lisa for her recognition from KTVB for being an innovative educator!  Lisa was also selected as State VFW and National VFW teacher of the year!  Proud of you, Lisa!

I miss taking our monthly pictures with my camera.  When I use my iPhone to take our 'timed' picture, the picture is blurring, not crisp like when someone takes the actual picture using the phone, or my old Canon camera.  One bright spot is blurry means wrinkles aren't as noticeable.  😉

March 2022 Bunco Hosted by Toni

Our friends were so excited to get together for a regular Bunco night in March, 2022. We've waited a long time during the pandemic to regroup.  Toni hosted, prepared a delicious chicken casserole, salad, and a light and refreshing Strawberry Icebox Pie.  We hugged, we talked (a lot) and rolled the dice for a few rounds.  The world has changed, but this group is back together again at last!

Sandy joined us and wants to continue to play, so we have another friend added to our group!

Our first night of real Bunco since February, 2020!  Hurray!  What a treat to see our friends and connect after so many months apart.

Lisa made PIE for us ... strawberry-rhubarb and cherry.  Plus lasagna, salad and garlic bread.  Yum! Small group of 8 but we had a ton of fun.  Thanks everyone for coming.

Paint Night | July 28 2021

It's summer and we haven't seen each other in person for SO long!  Brenda Raub, our very talented artist and teacher in Mountain Home, was convinced to instruct us on painting our beloved but long gone Doughnut Tree which was located on East 8th North near our current golf course.  When the golf course was expanded, as well as the widening of East 8th North, the doughnut tree was taken out, limb by limb, to the dismay of nearly everyone living in Mountain Home.  It was a cool place to hang out, bike to, walk to, and picnic under.  

Local photographer Jerry Kencke took a picture of the doughnut tree just after the eruption of Mt. Saint Helen's in Washington in May, 1980.  His picture captured the ashen skies which cast a shadow over the top of the tree.  Brenda used that picture as a model for us to paint.

I think we did rather well with our colors and dab-dab-dabs of paint on canvas!  Remember, art is the in eye of the beholder!

August 2020 Virtual Bunco

Welcome to Season 6 of Virtual Bunco.  Blame it on the stupid pandemic.   We haven't met and played Bunco in person since February 2020.  In order to keep us spring chickens healthy, we've been meeting virtually to keep our connections open..

This month, Bonnie and Lorretta met at Bonnie's house and joined our video together.  Bonnie is enjoying her first month of retirement and happy that alarm clocks are a thing of the past.  Lorretta is selling her sail boat (we joined her in a moment of sadness), BUT she and Blake will be getting a family pontoon boat!  Can we have Bunco on a pontoon boat?  Asking for a friend.

Dawn joined us in the middle of her work detail of keeping the power grids on due to fires in western Idaho.  We also saw her newest living room decoration, shop vac, as she and Lynn prepare to declutter, sell their current home and build a new home.  She and "Junior" will be living the RV life here shortly.

Lisa was excited to show us her newest toy, a full size quilting machine, so she can create and make beautiful, cozy quilts, all in her spare time of teaching 1st graders. Thank you Lisa for continuing to teach our children, online and in person.  

Krisann continues to be nestled in her RV and was busy clicking her knitting needles.  Such talent!  

Nothing big from my camp except I continue to wear stretch pants with my chocolate covered almond consumption.  

Lisa suggested we get together in person in September - YAY!  Staying safe and physical distancing, and being outdoors.   If we don't capture a September date, we may not see each other as the cold weather nears and daylight hours are short.  Stay tuned for details.

Toni R

Toni gave us a tour of her fish pond.  The koi are huge and beautiful!  Desi and her family are moving into a newly built home in Mountain Home, as is Kelsey and her family moving into a new home in Nampa.  The Ranch Club that Tyler runs is still closed as it's considered a club, and he and his family have moved in with Toni.  Yuck. Don't like hearing the news that his business is struggling so.

Her four grand kids are in Missouri for the summer so her house has quieted down.  She said she stays busy, but not sure what she does to make the hours tick by.  Isn't that the case of retirement?  😉

Bonnie

We were so happy to see Bonnie!  This was Bonnie's first video chat with us and it was wonderful.  Lorretta and Dorene helped Bonnie get set up for the call.  But, most importantly, Bonnie has retired from the Mountain Home School District after 43 years of service.  Congratulations Bonnie for your dedication, and keeping your sanity after working with students, teachers and administrators for 43 years!

Tammy H

Tammy is busy making masks for her grand kids.  Who knows if school will be in session this fall, or if the year 2525 will fall right after 2020. Who knows? Keep making those masks!  Tammy also canceled out of the golf clinic she was scheduled to attend with other lady golfers.  Obviously it would have been fun, but not worth the risk of catching the virus.  Your priorities are spot on.

Lorretta

"Perfect Pitch", Lorretta and Blake's beautiful sail boat, will be sold at the end of this summer.  Many great memories on Payette Lake, but she said it's time to not worry about winds and equipment and  move on to a family Pontoon boat!  Continued memories to be made on the water.  I think it's pretty darn awesome that you have a home and boat in the mountains!  

Dorene

Dorene joined us from Bonnie's to make sure Bonnie was connected this evening.  Dorene is always looking after Bonnie!  What a great friend!

Lisa

Lisa was a little late to the party as she was "napping".  Very soon after joining our chat, we saw a BIG bottle of wine she was helping herself too - maybe a little early birthday celebration?  Happy Birthday, Lisa!  Hope Mark prepares your lobster dinner to perfection!

Vicky

I provided a quick update about COVID surge numbers St. Luke's hospitals were seeing.  Hospitalizations of COVID positive  patients have increased substantially over the last week.  

Remember the 3 Ws -

• Wear a cloth face covering
• Wash your hands
• Wait at least six feet apart - avoid close contact

You cannot speed through a school zone

Seat belts are in place to save lives

WEAR YOUR DAMN MASK!

We need solidarity.  We need humanity vs. the virus

My final thoughts were how much I / we need to connect.  The isolation, pandemic fear, anxiety, all wear on us. Thanks to this great group of friends for joining our video chats - we are here for each other if anyone needs anything.

June 2020 Bunco - Zoom Fail!

Really, REALLY, worked hard to connect our team via Zoom this month.  I purchased the paid Zoom subscription so we would not have to be limited with their 40 minute time limited.  I had my laptop open, my iPad, my iPhone, and was only able to connect with Toni R.  Too many meeting codes and passwords.  About 30 minutes into the failure to communicate, I had a brilliant idea and connected using Facebook Video Messenger and was able to video chat with Toni R and Lisa.  That worked SO easy and it wasn't pre-planned or pre-scheduled - just something my little pea brain thought of at 730 pm.  Amazing how something I put a lot of thought into bombed, and something I winged at the last minute WORKED!

Next Wednesday, if everyone is available, I will start a video chat using FB Messenger.  I have created a FB Group and invited each of you to join this group.  I'll start the call just before 7 on June 24 for those that are available and can join us.

May 2020 - Zoom Bunco!

Quarantined Bunco!  COVID19 Social Distancing Bunco!  Whatever we call it, we gathered via Zoom and 8 of us met face to face on our laptops, desktops, phones and iPads.  It was WONDERFUL to see each other and talk about how life is moving on.  

Lisa told us a few 1st grade stories about her virtual classroom.  27 kids at once on her monitor, her teaching, them asking questions, some picking their noses.  WOW, a big thank you to Lisa and all the educational professionals who made it all happen to educate our kids on-line.

Kris has sold her house and she is living the dream in an RV waiting for a new house to be built.  No social distancing for her and Peach.

Dawn is working long hours from home keeping our lights on and will probably continue to work from home through the end of this summer.  A big shout out to her main man, Lynn, on his retirement from the Mountain Home School District.  Lynn touched so many young people who walked through his classroom.  It was nice to see Lynn jump into our Zoom chat for a minute as we congratulated him on his retirement.  Their son Ben is soon to be a dad later this summer.  Great news!

Tammy B shared with us her happy news that her daughter was married in Featherville over the weekend.  Congratulations on your new son-in-law and wishing them the best.  Tammy was also in a quiet room which seemed unusual with FOUR grand kids in her house!  Doors and locks really work.

Tammy H was excited she was able to get her hair done over the weekend.  Aren't we all happy salons are now reopened with new protocols.  Good-bye gray!   Her on-line shopping has picked up and her card board box stash has multiplied greatly. Tom popped into the screen to say hello.

Toni R had technical help from her grand daughter, and was able to join us using video by SWIPING.  Thank goodness for smart little kids!

Lorretta was joining us for the first time as a full time member of our Bunco group!  We are so happy to have Lorretta, and what a way to usher in her first month using Zoom.  Lorretta joined us a tad late as she was on a previous Zoom call to celebrate her mother-in-law's 85th birthday!  How cool is that!  I wonder if we will be Zooming when we are 85?  

I am back in the office after working from home for 6 weeks.  Fred and I had to agree who was going to take over the office, the breakfast bar and the kitchen.  He's been retired for 20 years and I was in his space during my work from home.  But, we managed and honestly, it was the best 6 weeks ever being at home - together - and not in isolation.  

Thank you Zoom for removing the 30 minute time limit on our chat to unlimited time!.  I don't know if that will be forever, or was just for our first Zoom call, but I use the free version instead of paying $14.95 per month so the extra time was appreciated.  

I'll schedule another Zoom Bunco night on June 17 at 7 pm.  I hope we all can join.  I'll send out the email link the day before or the day of so it's sitting in your inbox with the pass code.

Count 'em, we had eight players this month!  We had a fall, we had a count-down to knee replacement, we talked about kids and grand kids changing our daily lives, we had a ginormous headache, but most of all, we had our last Bunco in  Kris' house.  She's packing up, selling off, and will be living in an RV while her house sells and new home is being built.  Exciting yes, but Kris, we will keep you in our prayers so your sanity doesn't go out the door in a white garbage bag to the dumpster in Pine.

We had a really fun evening hosting Bunco in downtown Mountain Home at the Cottonwood Collective.  The Cottonwood Collective offers a diverse selection of hand crafted gifts, art, collectibles, and home decor items created by Idaho artists and artisans.  Originally, the Cottonwood Collective was the home of our family business, The Carpet Shoppe, and previously was the original Gem State Sporting Goods Store.

We had double the winnings tonight, and I'm sorry to report that the list of winners got tossed during the cleanup.  A few of us lucky ones had a pocket full of ones!

Tammy B is scheduled to host on May 15 but due to family obligations, she and Bonnie may trade months.  Stay tuned and we will let you know if the May location changes.

March 2019 Bunco hosted by Lisa and Dorene

Burrr.....February came and went with NO Bunco.  Last minute snow storm halted our February hearts in our tracks and we passed on playing at the last minute.  Good thing.  Roads are horrid, the wind was howling, and we hunkered in at home.

First Day of Spring Bunco!  Dorene and Lisa hosted ushering in Spring, even after Lisa had been home sick for a few days.  With Mark's help, she whipped up a yummy ham, hashbrown casserole, and green bean casserole PLUS a german chocolate cake.  And, bottled beverages.  AND scratch tickets thanks to Mark!  I heard a few cries of excitement with a $1 win, a $3 win, and a $5 win!  A wonderful night of table confusion (where were our table markers)? and location confusion.  Yes, some went to our usual March home at Bonnie's house - but we figured it all out and had lots of fun!

It was a fun evening with much talking and little Bunco playing!  Thanks to Toni for hosting, and for her always HUGE 50/50 giveaway!   We love to grapple and negotiate trying to snag one of the many trinkets Toni puts together for her 50/50 bag.

Not sure about this month's blurred picture with my new expensive iPhone 8.  Think I'll stick with my regular Canon point and shoot.  Or, maybe the phone lens is reflective of my own blurred vision at this age of life!

Jingle, Jangle, and in walks our very own Elf !  Lisa arrived lit up and bells on!  Our Christmas Bunco is always so much fun with our earring exchange, and thank you Toni for hosting.  Dinner was great, and The Grinch green cocktails were fantastic! 

Tammy is celebrating a milestone birthday this month, and we couldn't let the evening end without singing her happy birthday as she enjoyed her sweet little treat!

Baby Themed Halloween Bunco inspired by the birth of Paisley Rose, Rose's newest grand daughter.  And is baby Paisley ever a living doll!  

Rose cooked and packed her car from Meridian, stopped and picked me up on the way to Mountain Home, and we arrived at Toni's in plenty of time to get ready for a fun Halloween themed Bunco game night.   We missed a few of our regulars, and Desiree joined us as sub this month.   Dinner was delicious and Rose even brought each of us a Halloween glass for our favorite drink.

Lost my list of winners but do remember that Fran received the 50/50 prize and Tammy B won the best costume!  Congrats!

Fran knocked herself out with dinner this evening with yummy taco salad, salsa,  marinated cucumbers, pudding cake, and Chocolate Oatmeal No Bakes!   Our favorite!  

We were missing a few dice rollers - Rose, Tammy and Toni.  Anita joined me for the ride from Boise to play with us.  We look forward to our Bunco night and seeing our friends, and eating and drinking and winning a little cash!

Oh what a night!  We had 13 players and 12 seats!  Our subs were Dawn, Mary and Dawn.   It was fun as I got to stand around and ring the bell, eat, ring the bell some more, drink, take a couple more bites, and play a little.  Thanks Tammy for hosting and your dinner was ohhhh so good!  And thanks to Rose, my newest Ada County friend, for driving us over tonight.  See y'all next month at Dawn Kundson's on Aug 16.
